Mudavanhu James Maodzwa

James is the Chairperson of GED Foundation's Board of Trustees. He is a renowned banker with extensive experience in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. He is currently serving as the Executive Vice President for QNB Group in Doha, Qatar, James has been instrumental in providing financial services to previously unbanked and marginalized communities.

Driven by his background and expertise, James considers it an honor and privilege to be part of a team that mobilizes local and global leadership to promote education. With the support of friends and well-wishers who recognize the value of education, their mission is to uplift and empower individuals who are often marginalized and made to feel inferior.

The Foundation aims to pass on a legacy that many have been privileged to inherit. By providing the gift of education, they inspire individual and community development. They believe this attainable goal will create a lasting legacy for children, women, and men in a far-flung and marginalized rural communities in Zimbabwe, while also contributing to the global village. Dr Moses Mukabeta
Trustee

Dr Moses T. Mukabeta is an esteemed educator with an extensive background in Zimbabwe's education system. With 43 years of experience, he has taught at various levels and held key positions within the Ministry of Education, teacher's colleges, and Zimbabwe Open University. Throughout his career, Dr Mukabeta has also worked with international non-profit organizations, further enriching his expertise. He served as an education advisor for Save the Children International, working not only in Zimbabwe but also across the Southern African Development Cooperation (SADC) region and West Africa.

Additionally, he worked as an education specialist at the United Nations Education and Scientific Organization (UNESCO) Regional Office for Southern Africa. In these roles, he focused on crucial areas such as teacher development, curriculum design, literacy, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Currently, Dr Mukabeta serves as a consultant in the field of education, where he emphasizes the importance of teachers utilizing action research to enhance their own teaching practices.

Given his profound knowledge of government education policies, practices, and the work of non-profit organizations in addressing challenges faced by schools, teaching, learning, and curriculum development, Dr Mukabeta's expertise is invaluable. His insights and technical proficiency will undoubtedly benefit the board of the GED Foundation as they strategize and implement their initiatives.

 

Barbara Taylor
Trustee

As a native of Zimbabwe and a naturalized American, it has become glaringly obvious to Barbara Taylor that when a child is born, they have very little control over their health, education, and quality of life. Their life chances and destiny is a combination of the availability or lack of resources and caring adults. She is passionate about making a difference in the lives of diverse young people by providing educational opportunities.

Barbara believes that education is an anchor for a stable life and affords opportunities and choices that would otherwise not be available. She comes from a family background that cherishes the importance of education and how it can make a difference in the trajectory of individuals, family, and community. Being a trustee of the GED foundation is an honor and privilege as it draws from her longstanding appreciation for the role of nonprofit organizations in society.

Ms. Barbara Taylor helped raise funds that built the initial buildings at Maodzwa Primary School. She is passionate about making a practical difference in the lives of school children and the community through the GED Foundation. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, gardening, walking, snoozing at the beach, and traveling.

Tariro Roselyn Taruvinga, CPA.
Trustee

Ms. Tariro Taruvinga is responsible for ensuring the ethical management and disbursement of donor resources. She is actively involved in the Foundation’s program which seeks to provide a variety of educational support and resources such as school fees, textbooks and library books, furniture including computers for all children, with special attention being directed to vulnerable girl children, children from difficult family circumstances as well as high achieving pupils. She aims to contribute to the expansion of the scope and impact of the GED Foundation’s support on rural communities by fostering a shared vision, forming collaborative partnerships, and leveraging goodwill with willing partners. This aligns with the vision of Mr Jackson Maodzwa, the Founder of Maodzwa Primary School. Together with his wife, Mrs. Norah Maodzwa, they were passionate about education and community advancement.

Ms. Taruvinga is a Certified Public Accountant with a background in management and tax consulting. She understands the importance of strong governance and decision-making structures within organizations. Having worked for three of the big four global auditing and accounting companies, she has gained extensive experience in both the private sector and non-profit organizations in Africa, the USA, and Europe.

She is committed to developing and maintaining robust organizational systems and structures to ensure the smooth operation of the GED Foundation. As a Trustee, Ms. Taruvinga is dedicated to upholding the foundation’s ethical standards, promoting transparency, and ensuring the effective utilization of donor resources. Her ultimate goal is to advance the legacy of Mr. Jackson and Mrs. Norah Maodzwa by inclusive empowerment of individuals and communities through education.
